Next Gen Athlete – Brisbane

Round 5 of the Next Gen Athlete Grants and Scholarship Program is now open and will close on the 30 November 2017.

Successful applicants for Round 5 will be announced at a Celebration Event at Brisbane City Hall in early December 2017.

The NEXT GEN ATHLETE Brisbane Grants and Scholarship Program supports eligible Brisbane resident athletes with an intellectual disability to pursue their sporting dreams to compete at regional, state, national and international levels of sporting competition. Grants and scholarships can assist in covering the costs of a range of items that will assist you, these include equipment, coaching fees, membership fees, event application fees and eligible travel costs.

Sport Inclusion Australia is delighted to have developed the NEXT GEN ATHLETE Program with the support of the Lord’s Mayors Charitable Trust.

The NEXT GEN ATHLETE Program is an innovative way of identifying and supporting young athletes with an intellectual disability in the Brisbane metropolitan region on their athletic pathway.

It will assist to link aspiring young people with an intellectual disability to Queensland State Sporting organisations, Queensland School Sport and provide the opportunity to compete at local, regional, State, National and International levels while showcasing inclusive best practice and ultimately providing an opportunity to represent Australia at the 2019 Global Games in Brisbane.

This is a multiyear Scholarship Program to assist and support athletes to work with their local club, School Sport Queensland and their State Sporting Organisation Athlete Development Team to train, prepare and compete for regional, state, national and other Paralympic pathway competition opportunities that may occur during the period of the scholarship. The NEXT GEN ATHLETE SCHOLARSHIP Program is reviewed on an annual basis.


The NEXT GEN ATHLETE GRANT Program is a single amount of funding to assist athletes to engage and connect with local sporting clubs and other athlete development programs and competitions conducted by School Sport Queensland and State Sporting Organisations.
